Chrome extension breaks elm spa's

On osx (both High Sierra and Catalina) and Chrome 87 the extension stops elm webapps from changing pages - the address bar shows the correct address but the ā€˜pageā€™ does not refresh.

elm apps donā€™t update at all and when run locally (for development) the elm debugger doesnā€™t load.

Works correctly on Firefox

When you click on the navigation on the sidebar the address in the address bar changes but you have to manually refresh the page - when you turn off the extension the website behaves as expected

It seems to work for me on Brave/Chromium 87, but not on Chrome 87.

Very weird behaviour. Not sure when weā€™ll have time to look into the root cause.
If you have an idea and are open to fix it weā€™d be very thankful.
