it would be awesome if the memex helped you see those readers who consider themselves “gatekeepers” of an article/page.
such users have a strong connection to text, feel very well familiar with it and could be contacted to help you out making sense of more difficult/controversial passages.
we have been doing this forever at universities. certain individuals have the reputation to be a gatekeeper to understanding a certain thinker or text.
what you do is walk up to them and ask them questions. this often is more helpful than reading a ton of secondary literature.
